The Imahot (2022)

Glass, steel, sand 120 x 200 x 40 cm

In order to better understand my own position within Judaism, I examine the women who came before me, using a rhetorical approach to better observe enduring tensions. Our prominent yet mysterious figures. The installation consists of four glass horns (shofarim) in honour of the four matriarchs (Imahot) of Judaism: Sarah, Rebecca, Rachel, and Leah. A dedicated space and shofar for each woman. The rust patina of the steel framework acts as a visual reminder for the passing of time as each step represents the continuing generations, the final section unfinished floating mid-air allowing for the next monumental Jewish women yet to come.
